I followed the rabbit trail this week from a link that came through on Twitter and came across a free career assessment: Future Proof Your Career. Typically I am not a fan of assessments that prescribe career paths based on what you are good at. Just because you’ve gotten good at something through practice or out of necessity because your coursework or work experience required it – that does not mean you enjoy using that skill. This assessment started off asking some traditional question but the latter pages got into questions about what you actually liked doing. YES!

I took the free assessment and there was no surprise – the results were dead on – identifying coaching and teaching as my dominant abilities, as well as pinpointing my dominant intelligence: intrapersonal, interpersonal, and linguistic. I’ve attached a snapshot sample of my feedback from the free report above.

There is an option to pay for a full report as well: Authentic Direction: How to Find Your Life’s Purpose and Ideal Career.*

Tip: Before you take the assessment spend sometime brainstorming about what you enjoy doing, the kind of work you really want to do – regardless of salary right now. The assessment should validate what you know you enjoy, provide other options you may not have considered and shed light on some areas of your preferred work style and professional habits.

*Note: I have not purchased the full report, all data shown here is from the free report.
