If you haven’t stopped by the Change This site you are missing out on some great inspiration. I’ve pulled five browseworthy manifestos from the stack that are specifically great reads for Trailblazers.

The Freak Factor: Discovering Uniqueness by Flaunting Weakness by David Rendall

In a nutshell:

“These examples from my life illustrate the three primary lessons of this manifesto.

1.There is nothing wrong with you. Weaknesses are important clues to your strengths.
2.You find success when you find the right fit. You need to match your unique characteristics to situations that reward those qualities.
3.Your weaknesses make you different. They make you a freak and it’s good to be a freak.”

Quit Managing Your Time… and Start Managing Your Attention by Lee J. Colan & David Cottrell

Food for Thought:

“The problem is not time, and it’s not our to-do list. We knew how much time we had and we made out a list of what we wanted to do with it. The problem is that our attention was reallocated to something that was not leading us toward our goals… So, you can’t manage your time. Well, then, how do you manage your attention? Here’s what winners do: they identify their priorities, and they know when to say no.”

Flow, Flee or Fight: Declare Yourself For Change In Your Organization by Nevin Danielson

So True:

“My fear is that we say, “This doesn’t work for me. It doesn’t feel right and I think I could produce better results, however, the pay is good, the benefits are excellent, my boss has way more experience than me, I’m lucky to have gotten this job, my kids are about to start university, I’ve still got a student loan to pay off, this is a prestigious position, there’s nothing better out there, this system has been in place longer than I’ve been alive, I’ve never been taught any other way, work isn’t where I find my fulfillment, so the right thing for me to do right now is flow.” I think we all know how this ends, or more appropriately, doesn’t end. There will never be a right time to act. That’s because the simple, available excuses are always going to be easier than the alternatives, fighting or fleeing.”

Being Strategic: The Antidote to Fear by Erika Andersen

Good Advice:

“… Every day I’m seeing business people make panicky, fear-based decisions…I’m seeing it with individuals as well; lots of people have decided to “hunker down and ride it out” —not giving their best, hoping they won’t be fired…and thereby increasing the chances they will be fired. And those who have actually lost their jobs? Some are throwing off fear, but many others are feeling demoralized and hopeless, becoming paralyzed…The wise thing is to stay balanced; to see what is actually happening and then get clear on where you want to be when this begins to turn around—as it will. I want to help you do that.”

On the Road from Dreams to Destiny: There’s a Monster in There! By Ricky Minor

Powerful Point:

“We need to call attention to all the ways we can take control of our destiny, with special emphasis on becoming aware of our actions in situations that we commonly confront in our everyday lives. We face constant choices. Our decisions can move us forward towards our goals or shift us into reverse. So many of our negative choices and behaviors start in a mindless and almost automatic fashion. The trick is to create a strategy for taking positive action and eliminating the harmful patterns we commonly fall into that are preventable if we’re tuned in.”

Be Inspired,
Tai

Um… I may have found this by doing a little “ego surfing.” I was curious where I showed up. I like your list and love the focus of your blog. Thanks!
